The Lord of Juntengai had given Kumatetsu a task— ever since he had taken a human as his apprentice, the Lord apparently wanted the warrior bear to take his charge to the other Lords of the Beast Kingdom to answer a simple question: What is the true meaning of strength?
"What a stupid question," Kumatetsu growled as he sat over the campfire— he was the only one up; it was his turn to keep watch as he, his apprentice Kyuta, and his two friends Hyakushubo and Tatara, moved through the vast, untamed forests between the various cities of the realm. His ears flicked; there were a few creatures and spirits lurking in these ancient trees, but if they had any proper instinct, they would know that he was a dangerous predator to cross.
"What is strength?" he growled softly. They had been through two cities already, and the Lords there were just as vague and crazy as the old coot ruling over Jutengai. "It's so easy— I'm strength." Kumatetsu muttered confidently to himself. He hefted up his toned arm, red fur bristling as he curled it and his honed, hard-won muscle bulged in response.
"You're strength? Huh. Well that must be handy."
Kumatetsu leapt up, grabbing for his sword. "What? Who said that?" he growled low. Narrowing his eyes, he scanned the tree line but didn't see anything.
"You could call me an admirer. A friend, even."
The fur running down Kumatetsu's back stood on end— the voice came right behind him. "You— you're a spirit?" he rumbled low.
"Hey, you're not as stupid as people say!" The spirit replied cheerily. Kumatetsu bared his fangs, growling low. "Calm down, calm down— but I hear you're trying to figure out what strength is."
Kumatetsu felt an invisible hand run down his arm, and his eyes went wide as the tensed muscles in his arm surged out, bicep inflating rounder and harder than it ever had before, matched by his solid tricep and thickened forearm.
"Why don't we find out together?"
