The Socrano S Series León is one of the most iconic public transport vehicles ever produced in Atego SM, becoming a true urban symbol since its launch in 1994. Manufactured by Socrano Vehicle Industries, the model stands out for its robustness, versatility, and unique aesthetic that has endured through generations without losing its identity.


🔷 General Characteristics of the S Series León

Design:
The León features a boxy design with few curves, giving it a robust and functional appearance. Its windows, framed in black and made of double glass panels, are a trademark of the model. The front end includes flush-mounted headlights and a trapezoidal silver grille, originally smooth, lending a clean and industrial look.

Structure:
Built to withstand time and heavy use, the León’s structure prioritizes durability and ease of maintenance. The chassis varies depending on the version (such as B58 or B10M), but all follow a standardized and modular line, facilitating adaptations over the years.

2002 Update:
The only major aesthetic update came in 2002:

Front grilles became rectangular, with contours resembling an inverted “V” on the sides, giving it a more modern look while preserving the original shape.

Year Introduced: 1994
Usage: Specifically created for the Expresso Ategano, also founded in 1994.

Main features:

6 doors (3 on each side)

Left-side doors elevated to allow boarding on raised platforms, common in urban express lines

High passenger capacity

Visually iconic, heavily associated with mass transit in central areas and transit corridors of Atego



🟨 León B10M 4-Door (Standard and Semi-Coach)
Type: Standard and Semi-Coach (non-articulated)
Year Introduced: 1994
Usage: Urban and light intercity transport

Main features:

4 doors in conventional layout

Semi-coach version with an extended body, ideal for longer or suburban routes

Very common on mixed-use routes (urban and semi-urban)



♻️ Evolution and Hybrid Versions

Starting in the 2010s, hybrid versions of the León began to appear:

Equipped with electric support systems for the diesel engine

Some versions feature regenerative braking

Pilot projects tested auxiliary solar energy, especially in eco-corridors of Atego SM


These hybrid versions were well-received for reducing emissions and noise while maintaining the legacy of the classic design.

Despite being originally launched in the 1990s, many S Series León buses are still active on the streets of Atego SM:

Some retain the original 1994 bodywork

Others received the 2002 grille and internal upgrades

Articulated models still form the backbone of several trunk lines and the express system
