depression and generalized anxiety. this is my first time trying seriously to treat myself.

I have both as well. please contact me if I can be of assistance. One thing to keep in mind though, everyone's neurochemistry is different. it may take a while and some bad experiences before you find the ones that play nice with your system. Please don't become discouraged and stop treatment if that happens. This is why there are so many different kinds of meds. It's just a matter of finding the right cocktail. The "full text" of this comic is actually "These pills may or may not work for me, but either way, today, things start getting better" as this is my first try taking seriously my depression and anxiety and trying to do something about it besides hide from it.

Well said. moving forward is moving forward. You have just begun the journey, but you're taking steps toward dealing with these things. I don't want to get all gushy on you, but I've seen so many people just where you are. People making the decision to get help with things like this are causes for celebration to me.

Yup. I feel like I should add that having side effects you find difficult to live with is reason to try for something different, too...I got lucky on my first try, but not everyone does. SSRIs don't have dangerous side effects but they can have odd and annoying ones.

yes! thank you for that. It was kind of what I was after but I forgot to bring it to a point. It is indeed benefit versus side effect until you can find a good balance for yourself. There are also "synergistic" effects sometimes between them too. I have a bit of that action going on right now

It's all about just that right balance. I used to pal around with folks who were doing wonderfully (Still are, as far as I am aware) after they figured out the right ones. I wish you great fortune.

Give it time...these things may take a few days or weeks to kick in. However, don't listen to me...I hope the placebo effect kicks in!

I've got myself on an SSRI to help with my general anxiety about a year ago. If you can remember to take the meds they do help.

Glad to see you're taking steps to getting better. I take Zoloft/Sertraline for my depression, general anxiety, and the occasional Asperger's-induced psychoses. :v

Therapy is working, too. If you have the chance/time/money/resources I'd recommend psychotherapy as well.

I miss my mood-leveling pills, honestly...I really, really, really, really want them back...I think I matured with them, but they really helped me out. The first prescribed medication that's ever actually helped my mental state.

Best of luck going down this road. I really like how you point out that even just getting on this path is a step in the right direction. Things will get better.

I have to take meds every night because of anger related problems (but when I first started taking them, I had a serious rage isue), and other pills every morning that I have school due to having some serious attention deficit. I don't know how I would be able to live without them... ok I know how, just as an extremely irritable jerk that can't keep more than 10 secs of focus on anything.
I just hope you get the right medication, even small differences can have very different results (I know from experience), even if the first prescription doesn't work, it doesn't mean that meds won't work at all.

It's good that you have the courage to get yourself help, I'm hoping for the best, you deserve it.
