.Biography: Kimiko was born of a traveling, Taiwanese-Japanese fisherman named Yoshio who was the sole survivor of a crashed fishing boat due to a heavy storm off the coasts of the Philippine Islands and was rescued and cared for by a fellow marten named Amihan, who escaped her abusive and neglectful parents. The two lovers married in secrecy and gave birth to their first daughter, Mitsuka, a couple years before Kimiko herself was born. They lived a simple, farming life before they were forced to leave when Amihan’s family found her and attempted to force her to leave her husband and babies to become an indentured servant once again. Amihan and Yoshio along with their daughters quickly escaped by shipping off to Yoshio’s homeland of Japan where they make a living in a barely successful grocery store before their third and youngest daughter, Lavinia, was born.
Kimiko’s childhood was challenging due to her parents focusing on her sisters most of the time due to Mitsuka getting involved in numerous relationships with many boys that gets her in so much trouble and Lavinia following her older sister’s example while having an eccentric personality and wanting to become an acrobat and stunt-performing, often doing amateur and dangerous stunts. Kimiko felt like a loner and barely had any guidance. Due to that, she started joining a street gang called the Shinda Hebi after rescuing a few members from getting captured after a robbery of theirs almost failed. She has become an exceptional accomplice in robberies and gang attacks, causing her to grow among the ranks. However, she was left behind and injured during a botched gang ambush and discovered by Buddhist monks who took her into their monastery who are members of the Hikari Order. When they were tending to her injuries, she regrets her poor choices. During her time recovering, she was also cared for by one of the students, Kiyoko McKale, who slowly became her first true friend despite her timid and deadpan attitude. Kimiko joins the monastery as an official student, learning martial arts, and following a more noble life. She wants to redeem herself by betraying the Shinda Hebi and destroying their criminal business, resulting in most of them being arrested or killed. She rescued a desert iguana from their animal smuggling ring and turned him into a domesticated pet and companion named Keiichiro.
After Kiyoko McKale returns home to his family in Canada and the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor in 1941 and expanding the global conflict of World War ll, the monastery wanted no involvement, knowing the war will come to Japan. The monks divided the monastery into separate clans to spread across the world outside Japan to use their martial arts to aid the innocent in need and take down malevolent and corrupt people. However, the Shinda Hebi gang leaders, Tatsurō Nagaoka, a Sasakia charonda butterfly, and Yoshitaka Inamoto, a mandarin duck, found the monastery and want revenge against Kimiko for their destroyed gang by launching a surprise, arson attack. The monastery was destroyed with many students and monks killed along with the gang leaders. Kimiko escaped along with carrying the Tanomoshī Seishin bō staff she saved from the sacred weapons stash. Many clans of the monastery escaped and continued on their decision of spreading across the world. Feeling guilty how her past life and retaliation against her old gang resulted in such destruction and death, Kimiko left Japan as a traveling nomad and an independent vigilante, adopting the alias, Goraikō, which is Japanese for “arrival of light.”
During the early years of the Cold War era, Goraikō reunites with Kiyoko McKale along with many surviving members of their old monastery before she joins the Lucky Mavericks as an official member. She later on manages to reunite with her long-lost sisters, Mitsuka and Lavinia, learning their parents died from a bombing raid during World War ll and the sisters attempt to overcome their past differences as a reunited family.
.Personality: Throughout her harsh life, Kimiko had a timid and shy personality and when she interacts with people, she speaks in a deadpan attitude. When dealing with extreme stress and danger, especially for despite her antisocial behavior, she does acknowledge those who care about her and her true friends, making her loyal and caring to those close to her.
She has a bit of a naive side as she has a hard time understanding sarcasm, metaphors, and jokes when people say them and believing them in saying them in a literal or honest manner.
.Inspiration: Kimiko’s role as the Lucky Mavericks’ leading mystic member is largely influenced by the character, the Guru of the Stone, from Sony’s Sly Cooper video game series, her having telekinetic abilities as a result of her using her Tanomoshī Seishin is inspired by Cryptosporidium from THQ Nordic’s Destroy All Humans! video game series, while her Japanese and martial arts background are based off the samurai character, Goemon Ishikawa XIII, from Monkey Punch’s manga/anime series, Lupin lll, and Sony’s Spider-Man: Into The Spider-verse animated film character, Peni Parker, along with her voice actress, Kimiko Glenn, who is also Yamanashi’s given namesake. Her surname pays homage to the character, Joseph Yamanashi, played by comedian actor, Bobby Lee, from the Coach Hines sketches from the sketch-comedy Warner Brothers TV series, MadTV. Her personality is influenced by the character, Ami Enan, from the TMS anime series, Lupin The Third: Part 5, based off the works made by Monkey Punch, the Marvel Comics character, Drax, from James Gunn’s Guardians Of The Galaxy films, and Raven/Rachel Roth from DC Comics’ Teen Titans 2003 TV series.
Her pet desert iguana, Keiichirou, is named after and pays homage to the character, Keiichirou Miyanoshita, from the 2000s anime series, Ghost Stories, created by Pierrot and SPE Visual Works.
Her appearance is influenced by the character, Ruby Rose from RWBY!, Rukia Kuchiki from the anime series, Bleach, Barriss Offee from the Star Wars franchise, Professor Yuki from Destroy All Humans 2-Reprobed!, Freya Crescent from Final Fantasy IX, and my bought character, Diane, originally created by MayCham. Her middle name, Miyuki, pays homage to a favorite character of mine named Miyuki Shimada, created and owned by penguin-commando on deviantArt.
