As Aikine finished changing and turned around to the noble, approaching, he said words that made her pause.
"Please...just...please. No. I'd be a laughingstock, and nothing...let me...let me fix it."
Aikine grinned and brought her maw close to the noble's face, whispering in his ear with her hot breath. "Offer me money."
"The initial fee? Consider it an advance on what I owe you." What he'd paid her had hurt his budget dearly, but he just needed to get out.
"What about power?"
"Of course. You can be the power behind the throne..." He didn't mean any of it, but if he could get out of this one, maybe...?
Aikine withdrew and put a claw to her snout. "But what any arcanist of my caliber desires is knowledge."
"F-full access to my mage's library! All their research notes! You can have it! Even the rare and dangerous ones! We'll figure out to get more if you want, PLEASE!"
Aikine considered for a moment. "You actually make a pretty good offer, to be honest." she said, and then took out a collar. The same kind he'd put on her. "You'll get me what I need then, and you'll help me get a cure...in the meantime, your lands are mine."
So the story to this is Aikine started working for this guy as a arcanist for hire. Eventually he got worried about her allegiance, so he had her infected with lycanthropy and then slapped a control collar on her. Took her some time to figure out how to override the control collar, but now the tables have turned.

Aikine: See, that's the neat thing with Arcanery, Ilaark~ You can simply bend the rules to your own will~
Ilaark: Oh, I am well aware. It's just that you often run the risk of something backfiring or going wild with arcanery. It can be very unpredictable.
Aikine: Pssssh, you need to stop being so tightly wound sometimes~ it's better than that divine casting or warlocks, where you're just enforcing the will of a more-tightly-wound higher or lower being!
Ilaark: ...You're not wrong.
Aikine: Good~
Ilaark: ...Please keep your fangs away from me, I don't want to be a werewolf.
Aikine: But it's so liberating....

"Wings and Prayers", which is the setting that Aikine, Thenyr, Kawheek, and Faenya are used in, is originally based on Greyhawk Dungeons and Dragons so, a bit.
Maybe she did. See, the lord hired her as a expert mage because his own were having trouble. But then he realized she was very powerful, and as mage for hire, he had concerns about her willingness to continue working for him. So he had her infected to be able to control her with magic.
Problem was that his court mages who did the control spell, well, they were still not as skilled as Aikine, so she figured out their magic they were using to control her, found their mistakes, used them to free herself, and then closed those mistakes before turning that on the person who initially infected her. Turnabout is fair play, yeah? ;)
