well my boss calls me from work- I go- OHHHHH SHIIIT!
she starts off, 'you're working today, right? ...right?'
and before I can un-D: myself she says 'nooo, no it's thursday, nevermind! I called cause' I found this HUGE beetle.'
I piped up: 'faun brown with black spots?' she says: 'like olive- but it's got these big horns!' I spaz- 'it's an eastern hercules!' she goes: 'okay, come by and pick it up, it's still alive!'
so I run on over, and lo and behold this beauty was there in a grande cup. I put him in my reptile carrier (I misted it so it would be moist) and took him home. here he is nomming some cresty slime (rephashy gecko diet) since they normally eat nectar and sap and fruit goo, I thought the gecko mix would be better than straight honey or fresh squeezed whatever-was-onhand.
he's been sittin' there suckin' it up, it's adorable. he also drank a drop of water or two. I will do my best to care for him, but I want to release him into a park or summat so he can live and breed here. they are more or less rare here anyway, no use taking such a hottie out of the gene pool. (beetles base sexiness on horn size, strength and stank- also known as musk)

:3 I had the geckomix ready, and our apples weren't organic or anything so I didn't want to push my luck with them D:
he's sucked up all of the small portion I gave him all ready, though D:
I'll probably clean out a tank for him and give him the gecko mix plus a fresh fruit a day.
I kept a female for several years on a diet of honey, banana, orange, hummingbird mix and assorted other fruits as I got them myself. she was wild-caught like this one is, but I may try to raise them. :3c it can be done!
