One of the original reference sheets for the common Falgrove critters Astrocat made some years ago.
This reference sheet is a quick look at Matt Dogs, covering all the basics of the species.
Considered a protection system by the people that created Falgrove, Matt Dogs are a magical statue in canine form which have been placed across the woodlands and marshes. Inanimate and often sitting on a pedestal, these statues remain motionless, most covered by moss and often half buried under years of leaves. However, once an intruder enters the area they are to guard, they will come alive and use their physical advantages to either see off the intruder, or dispose of it.
Matt Dogs seem to have a strong resistance to both physical and magical attacks though it has been noted that both a strong enough magical attack, or someone attempted to tinker with the enchantment that animates them, will cause the Mat Dog to violently disassemble. Some day this is a protective measure to ensure none can learn how they are crafted, or what their weaknesses may be. That being said one known weakness seen has been acid rain, and many have already been destroyed from previous encounters, little more then a pedestal with stone rubble.
