One of the original reference sheets for the common Falgrove critters Astrocat made some years ago.

This reference sheet is a quick look at the Lesser Splyap, covering all the basics of the species.

Lesser Splyaps are roughly mid to high level predators somewhat similar to maned wolves but with a jaw that opens in an unconventional way. It's assumed the name "Splyap" refers to the way their weak jaws open for large food items. They are known to be maneaters, rapidly gulping down victims whole, but can usually be rendered harmless with copious amounts of petting, if done before too much of the victim is swallowed. It's assumed they might have been created specifically as a tame pet species, before becoming more wild later on, an explanation that attempts to account for the species becoming docile when petted. The long creature you see being assaulted here is a Sathaa, a common prey to Lesser Splyaps if they cannot curl around something well enough.
