A long-running project that is finally complete!
I have been really fascinated by what people are doing with silicone to make tails, and I wanted to give it a try!
But I had a few stipulations and things I wanted to improve upon:
* Many of the existing cores are too long and/or sickle-shaped for a wild canid - much too doglike!
* Some cores are quite heavy and/or the base is really chunky
* A plain fur sleeve over a flat-shaped core ends up looking a bit flat and rudder-like rather than fluffy and round, and the sleeves can look baggy or foldy.
So, I made this one like this:
* The silicone core is one of the furred tails from BONBDSM / BonTail. I took the fur sleeve it came with off.
* I made my fur sleeve the shape I wanted. It’s 4 different fur colors (grey, tan, reddish, and white), plus airbrushing for the dark tip and supracaudal gland. It’s BigZ fur - very nice! So happy to have that agouti/banded effect for realism.
* I glued one side of 4 snaps to the base and sewed the other sides to cloth pieces I pinned inside the sleeve to hold it to the base.
* There’s a bit of foam around the base of the core to give it structure and shape.
* The core is also quite sickle-shaped, so I put a piece of felt inside the top of the sleeve where the tip of the core tended to poke. This also gave the end of the tail a little more structure so it wouldn’t get flat.
* There is a little bit of mochi stuffing in there, concentrated toward the base! This keeps the sleeve from looking baggy and foldy.
I’m really happy with the result. It’s very light, comfortable, and incredibly responsive to body motions! Here are a few demo vids:

I have no tutorial other than this, but hopefully this demonstrates what’s possible with custom sleeves on these cores and a little modification and creativity.
Not taking commissions on these for now!

I’m pretty unlikely to take commissions on stuff like this, because I don’t have any space to stash more colors of fur. But I do have a lot left over from the purchase for this tail, so I am considering making something - maybe even a few tails. The supplies are a little pricey because of the silicone, though; I’m not sure what would even be an expected price to charge!
I’m glad you like though!! I’m pretty happy with it! I was really excited to do this project, so it’s especially satisfying to have it turn out pretty well.
