My furry interpretation of a toad wahy creature found on a handful of Classic Maya vessels.
Wahyob (singular wahy) were once believed to be a facet of nagualism, or totem/spirit animals, in Classic Maya culture. While their exact role is still mysterious, it's more likely that they were invoked by rulers or sorcerers to invoke disease or misfortune on enemy cities. In fact, the toad this character is based on is always shown holding a platter with a death god's eyeball, a severed hand, and a bone. I left that out, but I did include the water lily and nibbling fish, which are used as symbols in Maya art to indicate an aquatic setting for a figure.
