Black locust is native to a few small locations in North America. It has been widely imported into Europe and is now a common sight along alleys and parks. It's one of the few trees to have thorns, something that surprised me as a kid.
Every part of the plant except the flowers is poisonous, it contains robin, a toxic plant protein. The seeds ripe inside pea-shaped pods.
Black locust is also known as "false acacia", both trees have thorns and similarly shaped leaves but they aren't closely related. Acacia honey which is popular in Europe is produced from the flower nectar of black locust.
