A sweet and sour sensation served on rice is very nice from the kitchens of
artamis
I think from time to time I'm going to do a little series on my adventures in cooking and baking. I shall call it Moon Fox Diner. Today on the menu: Sweet and Sour Pork~ Here's how I did it:
I was inspired by the many different people on Youtube that I follow (Cooking with Dog, Mangchi, RunnyRunny 999) and decided to give Sweet and Sour Pork a try. Simple, delicious and definitely worth making!
INGREDIENTS:
Main:
2 - 4 Pork Loin Chops
1 Egg, Beaten
1 tbsp Sake (can omit if you like)
1/2 tbsp Soy Sauce
Salt and Pepper to taste
+/- 4 tbsp Flour or Corn Starch
2 Bell Peppers
1/2 an Onion (use the whole if you really like onion)
Pineapple Chunks
For Sauce:
3 tbsp Rice Vinegar
3 tbsp Sugar
1 tbsp Soy Sauce
1 tbsp Ketchup
50 ml Water (just over 1/3 cup)
1 tbsp Flour/Corn Starch
1.5 tbsp Water
THIS IS HOW WE DO IT:
Cut up your pork and trim off any excess fat. I cut mine into bars, then the bars in half. Cut up your onion and peppers into chunks, not too big though. Cut up your pineapple unless it's already in chunks. You can use canned or fresh, whichever is fine. I used canned because I'm slightly allergic to fresh pineapple.
In a bowl, put in the pork, egg, sake, soy sauce and salt and pepper and mix well. Add the flour or corn starch and then set this mixture aside for 15 minutes. While it's sitting, make your sauce. In a small bowl, mix the rice vinegar, sugar, soy sauce, ketchup and water and mix well.
!DEEP FRYING PORTION!
Get your oil up to heat, approx 170 C/ 300 F and then drop in your pork carefully. Once the pork is golden brown, remove and place on a draining rack or some paper towel.
Get a Wok or large frying pan and put some veggie oil in the bottom. Add some garlic if you like and fry it up. Add the onions. Once translucent and soft, add the peppers and cook until they show signs of softening. Add your Sweet and Sour Sauce mix (the rice vinegar and stuff). Once that comes to a boil, mix the Flour or Starch and Water together and then pour into the bubbling sauce. Stir well and once it thickens, add your pork and pineapple and mix to coat.
That's it! Serve with some rice and enjoy~
