Well, here's something I haven't posted in a while; a short story done by myself, and a clean one at that. Well, okay, it has violence, but it's surprisingly small, especially considering that this is a superhero/villain story.
For those interested, this is a debut story for my newest character, Mine, otherwise known as the city of Novum Agri/Novus Ager (mix and match variants too), and is appropriately set and devoted to it. Why is it named Mine? Well, because Mine is the heart and soul of a city, who's name shifts because of the struggle going on in its timestream, plain and simple. It has a mind of its own, but it doesn't think like a normal person, and thus when it says that its name is Mine, it's referring to itself literally; the name belongs to itself. It's not selfish (although it only actively protects its buildings, not the people inside them), it's just thinks differently. Structures have different survival tendencies than normal people, let's just say.
Mine was a character that I just thought of, out of the blue, although I don't remember what it was that sparked its creation. Maybe it was the phrase "the heart and soul" of something, or maybe it was the idea of a shop (expanded to a city) having its own intelligence. Who knows for sure? In any case, Mine is neither good nor evil, just looking to see that it exists and exists as is, like every one of us.
Anyways, I hope you guys enjoy. Comments are welcome (and in fact encouraged, seeing as I don't get many of them at all) and I would like to point out that while the ending to this piece is ambiguous, it is not (in the foreseeable future) leading into anything else. It is just a short story showing off what one of my newest characters can do and a couple of my heroes and villains, too.

Little about the Slick Savant doesn't have to do with goo.
His suit? Goo-based.
His powers? Goo-based.
His idiot grunts whom he doesn't actually pay? Goo-based.
His car seats? Gel-filled.
His sandwiches? Boysenberry jelly and marmalade.
His favourite treat? Marshmallow filled jello with bits of fruit jelly inside and marmalade on top.
...oddly enough, he doesn't like use toothpaste to clean his teeth at night, mostly because it's "too gritty" for him to use for his own powers - to that end he's developed a new suds based gel to get the job done! The only problem is that it's pretty expensive to make, and he's found that with anyone aside from himself the gel quickly turns to something like bubblegum once it froths in a person's mouth.
Okay, silliness aside, thank you very much for your comments Emerald, I'm glad that you enjoyed the story. It's the first time that something I've made (to my knowledge anyways) has been given such a compliment as being Lovecraftian, and I'm actually surprised I didn't see it when I started writing Mine out. Also, if you look hard enough, the answers might be there for you to see...obscurely, yes, but I was sure that I added them in...meh, the creator always sees what the audience doesn't. Must be genre blindness on my part or something (that, or I made him and thus know everything of him).
I hope to have more of the character out soon, and thanks again for reading and commenting Emerald.
