(Part One)
Progress of my current project. This is very tedious and time-consuming -- go slow and, for the love of God, please wear safety glasses and a dust mask if you're going to take this up. I'm always choking and coughing afterwards when I don't wear my mask... that's BAD.
Anyways, enjoy! This skull has a bottom jaw that I will be carving on also, and will be for sale when I'm done ^^

LoL I don't carve when I'm tired or can't focus. The magic's not there under those circumstances.
As for the sinew, I'll try to describe it as best I can. Basically I tie a loop around the back "joint" of each lower jaw (where the mandible connects with the cranium), then loop the sinew up around the zygomatic arch and tie a bunch of square knots. Does that make sense? ^^

This tutorial is SUPER helpful, dahlin! ; u ;
I'm actually going to be giving this a shot for a project in my 3D class since my other two met an unfortunate end. ><
I know next to nothing about tools (save for the basics) so I was wondering exactly what is a dremel and would I be able to find it and its bits at some place like Lowes Hardware? And is there a particular brand(s) you suggest?
I apologize if my questions are annoying, I'm sure you get asked about this sort of thing a lot! XD;;;

No, no, I like it when people ask questions ^^
You can find rotary tools at almost any store, even Walmart. Dremel is simply a brand. I started out with a small battery operated one and it's great as a starter tool but slow going once you get real serious just because of its speed. If you know anyone who has one, ask if you can try it out ^^

Seriously Walmart? o3o Wow, I'm going to have to take a look over there then!
Thank you so much for taking the time to answer me! Its greatly appreciated! ; u ;
I'll look into the Dremel brand and see about trying my hand at a battery operated one if they have them in stock. I'd love to really do some of these skulls up as more than just a project. Its such a beautiful way of taking nature and art and fusing them~
Thank you so much again! I'll be sure to let you know how all this turns out for me~ :D

If you do find you like it and want to do it regularly you might consider an electric rotary tool and a flex shaft which is what I graduated to. It makes things so much easier, and the faster speeds allow you to work faster. Also look into diamond burr bits and engraving cutters.
Have fun and remember to wear protective eye gear and a dust mask!

I can turn my wood over and practice on the other side when I make a mistake . I use traditional carving tools but I much as I try to stay away from power tools it's just not practical . Where are those apprentices when you need them ? 3 seconds with a router or table saw can destory days of carving .... sigh . Keep up your work it's really sweet stuff you're doing .
