Well technically a technician more then a mechanic at times, Gatti comes from a earth far into the future where humans left behind a radioactive planet. But Years and years have passed since, Now Somehow the radiation caused the bugs on the planet to slowly grow and mutated into more humanoid like fellows.

They build their home based on the history and scrap left behind that were still standing, Thus they tend to be surprisedly good with tech. Plus thanks to a peaceful federation that arrived on the new earth. They made it to the space age.

Of course I'm mostly lore dumping, Gatti always wanted to start his own business to repair, Thus he managed to save enough to get his own space craft and offer his services to anyone in need of repairs. Even with some of his old fixed up tools.
