Yep, they're extremely painful. When I was a kid, one got my aunt and mom, and my mom was pregnant at the time. She actually went into shock and lost the baby due to how bad the sting was. It was bad. They even ended up closing the beach because the guy on the ambulance said they'd had over 10 calls because of them.
