Doodles from maybe a week ago? Birds are probably my favorite animals. Lately I've been mulling over getting another...I miss having one around. I'd get a weaned chick from a breeder this time, though, not going to take my chances again with someone lying to me about a bird's age/health.
The only obvious downside I've found with the breed I'm looking at is THIS. Bird...or alarm clock?

Oh they make a huge fucking mess with seeds, so I ended up putting a cover over the seeds in one cage and buying a new cage for my other with tall plastic sides on the bottom. The one with the covered cup still manages to shoot seeds everywhere.. idk HOW, but the plastic side one works very well.
Well...you DO need an alarm clock you don't ignore! Maybe you could train yours to squawk at a specific time in the morning!
I envy your ability to even OWN a bird. My dad's stupid allergic to them, so even when I live on my own I can't get one. Not if I want Dad to visit, which I do. 8(

HAHA that's a thought. xD Not sure people would like that if I get an apartment, though.
My dad's pretty neutral on the idea, he really loved my old little bird so I don't know what he'd think of a new one. Mother is happy with the idea, but keeps telling me to go for another grey. Either way, they own an umbrella cockatoo, so it's not like noise is going to be a novel and new concept.
There's a local woman who raises various breeds in her home and is pretty intense about it, but she works by taking "orders" from people, and something about it just seems...odd to me, I don't know. It's not a decision I want to make without lots and lots of consideration, anyway.

I know they are a lot different from a sun conure, but look into green cheek conures... they are super sweet and playful and they do not have a scream anything like the aratinga conures (suns, jendays, etc).
Something that is a more the same size as and little more colorful like a sun conure but also isn't a screamer, is a yellow bellied caique. Again, super playful, cuddly and handleable, but there's a big price difference here.

Oh, whoa, the green cheeks look like really sweet birds too. Thanks a bunch for the heads-up, I'll check those out too!
Caiques are so cute and playful aaah I love them <3 not sure if I'd want one myself, but thanks again for the two pennies. Have you had either of these yourself?

I've heard lots of good things about the green cheeks, and actually wanted one for a while (before I had Sam). I still might get one someday. Also a big fan of caiques, but they tend to be more expensive and less available than conures, I've noticed.

I've had a green cheek....... seriously, I think it's one of the only birds I would own again. They are really quiet compared to almost any other bird, and super sweet as long as you know the basics of teaching birds their manners. There are different colors you can choose from also, pineapple and yellow sided have quite a bit more bright colors on them. I just wish they were a little bigger, I have a husky now and I don't trust him around anything that small. They also think they are as large as a macaw, and have big personalities. I REALLY LOVE THEM AAAH lol. You can also check out any other species in the genus Pyrrhura, they will all be playful little conures with small voices.
I've never owned a caique, I just used to work in a parrot store for a few years. It was the kind of store that tried to match people with the right species of bird depending on noise factors, cuddly factors, talking ability, etc... people didn't always take our advice, but we had a 30-day window for them to bring them back to get the kind we told them they should... lol.
My friend has a green wing macaw that almost never ever eeevvverrr screams, and that is also a very enjoyable bird, but most other macaws I have been around are much more vocal.
