Comm - Calliope Rejuira Bio Alt. (OC)
Coming off the heels of May the Fourth (and other recent happenings from a Galaxy Far, Far Away), one couldn't be blamed for getting in a particular Star Wars mindset! Which is exactly where I'm at right now, with a lot of my brainpower lately dedicated to all things Sith, Jedi, and in-between.
That's why I also wanted to share this piece drawn by PrurientPie and colored by @AxiomTF, my partner in crime on this one! See, we had the exciting chance at the time to sign on for an up-and-coming Star Wars series of our very own, seeing as Disney and LucasFilm were releasing one every other month way back when...
In addition to the sequence posted, Axiom also kindly helped me put together a biography page (or two) based on some backstory we drummed up for my character, who I'd had bouncing around in my head for a while before having a chance to do something with her. Transcribed below is what I wrote for it!
---
Calliope Rejuira is a Twi’lek bounty hunter, and travels the stars as part of a small crew aboard a ship called the Flamebird. While she may move hastily from one job to the next, she is generally averse to more morally dubious work, so chooses her pursuits somewhat carefully.
Originally born on the planet Ryloth, her family left their homeworld shortly before the start of the Clone Wars, while she and her brother were still children. It was a period of building tension and turmoil for Ryloth itself that preceded the galaxy-wide conflict; her father was formerly a soldier with one of the local clan’s militias, while her mother grew up off-world, settling there after meeting him. Sharing an instinct for a greater danger on the rise, they pulled some strings to move their family to a safer corner of the galaxy.
It was only after this move that a secret about their parents was revealed to Calliope and her sibling – their mother had previously been a member of the Jedi Order, passing a sensitivity to the Force down to the two of them. A mission to Ryloth many years prior had seen her heavily injured, and she was presumed and reported dead. In truth, she had recovered in secret in the care of her father’s unit, bonding with him and ultimately declining to return to the Order and life as a Jedi. She also determined that it was not a life she wished for their two children, either, though once the truth came out, she made it a point to share some basic lessons of the Force with them to better understand and control any abilities they might manifest.
Inevitably, the Clone Wars reached their new home a few years later, though the family did their best to stay far removed from the conflict. As the war approached its end, Calliope’s mother suffered a horrible episode whereupon she felt the sudden execution of countless Jedi, something even one as removed as she was from the Order could feel as it rippled across the Galaxy.
As the Empire rose out of the remains of the Republic, Calliope’s mother ceased their lessons, becoming paranoid that to do so would only put targets on her children for the likes of Inquisitors and Hunters who sought out the remains of the Jedi Order. Ultimately, she decided it best to leave them herself entirely, a departure that wounded Calliope deeply for years to follow.
While the family felt vacuum left by the loss of one of their own, her father and brother continued to work and did their best adjusting to her absence. But Calliope, who always showed more interest and aptitude for her mother’s lessons, never fully acclimated to this, taking to the stars when she came of age to follow her trail and seek her in the greater galaxy. Bounty work proved the best source of income for one without a place to call home, becoming a profession she was well suited to with her minimal Force training, as well as combat acuity picked up from her father.
Ultimately, she would find kindred and trusted spirits when she teamed up with the crew of the Flamebird, with whom she continues traveling the Galaxy on her personal quest to this day...
