More old art from 201! Okay, NOW we have a proper Illusionmaster.
This is Violet Eyes. Illusionmasters (also sometimes called Beasts of Illusion) are one of the few magic-based species around, and as their name would suggest are best known for the illusions they cast both on themselves and their surroundings. You won't normally see one in their 'real' form, as they much prefer disguising themselves as someone or something else; while this is close to how Violet Eyes (and illusionmasters in general) 'actually' looks, it's likely he's made a few small tweaks to better suit his own tastes.
They're generally considered to be trouble, and while they're not necessarily bad, even the well-intentioned ones seem to stir things up wherever they go- they will do as they please, and hold little heed for the laws of beast or man.
In earlier times, they were considered an ill omen, and often chased down- their blood is highly concentrated magic and looks like mercury, and is deeply toxic to any non magic-based organisms, causing madness if ingested. They aren't really well known now, or if they are, it would be more akin to running into a unicorn- something of myth and legend, not of flesh and bone. (Speaking of bone, a 'fun' little trick they can do is to twist their skeletons and flesh around inside their own skin if some other beast bites down on them, detaching themself in just such a way so as to be able to reach back around and fight back in what should be an impossible manner.)
They're capable of something known as 'echoing', a flicker fade out effect in which they rally themselves onto an adjacent plane of existence- they're still present, just not visible, having stepped 'behind the curtain' of reality, as it were. It's them going backstage, and with all the strings of reality they can play at and pull like a harp. Deeply frustrating for anyone trying to get into a physical brawl with one, since they can simply disappear, and then reappear somewhere else.
Let's see, what else- illusionmasters have something called 'hallow form', a state they enter upon being injured or blood drawn in a fight; usually, beasts of illusion are passive magic eaters, absorbing it from their surroundings, but this state throttles them forward into a more active capacity, drawing and pulling any latent magics toward themselves to give them a boost- it's like an adrenaline surge, only external in nature and never a good sign. (When illusionmasters fight among themselves, they tend to be more prone to putting on bravado and one-upping eachother through illusion than through physical force, because go figure, spilling all that magic has been known to enter them into a bit of a feeding frenzy, and cannibalism isn't off the table. Most polite company tries to avoid this.)
Kaerith has a deep seated distrust of them, after Violet Eyes- in a genuinely innocent fashion, for an illusionmaster- disguised himself as her and got her ousted from her clan. He was curious to see what the whole 'living as a normal, social creature' entailed, and thought he wasn't doing any harm, but just being unable to tell what was or wasn't Kaerith was enough of a transgression to boot her. He actually feels slightly bad about this (odd, for an illusionmaster) and has tried to make it up to her, though she wants nothing to do with him, and will try to attack him on sight- as a result he's assigned a proxy, and figures if he can't make it up to her, then maybe he can settle the debt by helping a friend of hers.
