And more old art from 2010! I never fully finished this, but still like how it turned out- trying to do watercolor on regular sketchpaper didn't quite work out so I left it here! Anyway, time for more Spotlighter bits, this time about the actual city the storyline takes place in!
Putting my old dA description because I rambled:
The storyline takes place in a city called Amberline, which got its name from the amberish-orange glow that blankets the entire city come sunset (which I was going for here). It's located in a different region than most of my storystuffs, possibly another continent completely.
- Amberline is considered to be a technology/business 'hub' city; with such rapid growth in these sectors over such a relatively short time, it's poised to become one of the most prominent in the region. In other words, it's very large!
- With so much growth in information/data/technology, companies have a lot they want to protect, not only from general threats at large but also from their rivals. This is where Secure Technologies stepped in, creating the Spotlighter line to provide security for any company or individual who had something worth protecting.
- (It's worth noting that the Spotlighter line has expanded well beyond just security at this point, but this is where it got its start.)
- While Amberline's new wealth and competition between companies led to advances in security, it also provided a unique foothold for another sort of 'business'. It probably got its start thanks to the increasing demand for corporate espionage between companies, but now there's a pretty well-developed thief organization known as BREACH that makes Amberline its home, too, taking advantage of all the opportunity such a city provides.
- This might not be such a problem if not for the fact that said organization somehow got its hands on several Spotlighters of their own (despite Secure Technology's best efforts), much to everyone else's chagrin- as it turns out, things that are good at protecting can also make very handy assistants for retrieving protected items, and this is a problem many in the city are facing now.
- ...So in essence, while most Spotlighters are used for security, you now have some that are being used for a very different purpose. What better way to sneak into a building with a Spotlighter guard than to bring one of your own? There's also probably some modding that goes on among the thief ones that makes them more effective, and while there's not a whole lot of them, it's enough to be problematic - especially since Secure Technologies has no idea how they keep getting hold of them. Whoops!
