...with a SLIDE RULE! Man, I haven't seen -- or used -- one of them in thirty years!!!

I still use my TSquare all the time.

So do I. But I was talking about the slide rule, a calculating device for figuring out higher math functions that pretty much went the way of the dinosaur after the advent of the pocket calculator.

I last saw and used one of those back when I was a technician for a foundry's metallurgy lab... and I was one of the first there to 'graduate' to the calculator when they became common and affordable. ($50 at the time, compared to an associate's TI programmable scientific calculator with fewer functions than mine (a Radio Shack model), priced at nearly $500.)

I use my Aristo Slide rule almost everyday at work ; ) i just like the feel of it!

And it was great when i was a student, when in the institute did exams with "calculators not allowed" , slide rules were completely allowed - some of my classmates wanted me to teach them how to use a slide rule just for that reason, and professors didn't consider that as cheating, but "impressive"

The lamp on the left is definitely 1960's-- I remember having one like that when I was a kid.

Around here we call those light trees.

We had one of those lamps in our house too. We also had a squared-off sofa finished in black cloth with a matching orange chair, a brass sunburst clock, and a surprisingly normal walnut coffee table.

You've just described my living room.

For me it has more of a Sixties comic feeling to it.

Which I think is pretty cool.

My mom had a light tree lamp way back when I was a young'un. The metal lampshades on that thing would get blisteringly hot when it was turned on.
