Zilla Sue Katrina in “Blood Moon Over the Bayou”
[Soundtrack: “Down by the Water” by PJ Harvey]
The discordant sounds of humanity in the bar, the laughter, the shouting – none of it could completely obscure the frogsong outside, the music of the swamp reminding her that she was here for a purpose. It wasn’t to feed, not tonight. Spring brought different, more pressing needs.
Zilla toyed absently with her glass, listening to the clink of her claw against the ice. What did they see, these creatures around her? She’d never understand them, nor did she want to. They were so short-sighted, so selfish. They could never know the love she felt, the pain of loss. They had their uses, of course. The old woman that took her in after she escaped, who taught her how to hide herself, how to blend in. “Magic”, they called it, “Voodoo”. Ancient secrets by their standards, just another way to survive by her own.
She could only guess what men saw. Probably some soft, light-skinned thing with doe-eyes, not the proud, dark creature she was. Something weak, a prey-beast in waiting. Waiting, yes, but she was prey to no one. Women seemed to see something more powerful in her, to sense her purpose and strength. Women were smarter.
Gazing across the bar, she surveyed tonight’s prospects. Zilla needed an equal, not just another supplicant made brave by too much drink. As if summoned by the thought, a tiny boor of a man sauntered towards her, beaming a drunken smile pasted on a ruddy face, crowned by as little actual hair as she herself possessed.
“Hi therrre,” he droned, voice shifting to a lower register intended to impress or seduce. “I haven’t seen you here bef…”
“What do you want, little man?” Zilla had little patience for these creatures.
He stammered, complexion darkening. “I… Can I get you something to drink?”
Retrieving an ice cube from her glass, she popped it into her mouth and applied pressure in excess of 5000 pounds per square inch. As it shattered, the sound was barely audible. Zilla simply stared coldly at the pest.
Undaunted, he leaned in to whisper something into the space where an ear would be, had she any external indicators of such.
Faster than he could react, Zilla pushed on his chest with her forefoot and swept her muscular tail around the back of his knees, pulling his lower legs towards her stool. Hitting the floor with a heavy thud, he groaned as she planted a foot firmly in the center of his chest.
“You are not the one,” she hissed. “You cannot help me find my children. Leave.”
She released the man from under her foot and watched him scurry off, anger turning to amusement. Silly creatures, these humans. So very foolish. But soon…

Thankee! Since I can't draw worth a penny, she's entirely "fingerpainted" using Paint Shop Pro's airbrushing and smudge tools, with the scales and background texture modified using Alien Skin's Eye Candy, and many, many layers. A step up from my pixel art, but just barely. Me good tool user! ::pounds chest with fist:: Ow!
