Leave them alone. Balto being a bada** when attacking the bear. Jenna will help him kick that bear –butt. Though: the reason the bear attacks is that Muk and Luk probably woke it from hibernation. This is why Balto wanted them to be quiet. Despite common belief a bear does not sleep all though the winter. They will go up in a dazed state to find a little food and then go back to their den. The bear is probably groggy and not himself. This is why he makes poor decisions too. They are kind of still sleeping in this state and he would not have gone out on the ice if he was fully awake. Then again was he fully awake and attacking them they would be dead.
