I am working on my own homebrewed Fantasy Mexico inspired D&D Campaign set in a facsimile of the historical Spanish Conquest but dragged out longer like both sides are pretty evenly matched with the backup of Gods and Magic.
I decided to make my own group of 5 original Dragons for the setting based on some of the Aztec Gods. The Jade Dragon is based on the Aztec goddess: Chalchihuitlicue.
Chalchihuitlicue's name means "She of the Jade Skirt", she is the Goddess of Water, including: Rivers, Seas, Lakes, Streams, Groundwater and Storms, was believed to be the personification of youth, beauty, and zeal, and was the formerly the Sun goddess of the 4th incarnation of the earth who Tezcatlipoca bullied into crying rivers of blood for 52 years by accusing her of being a fake who didn't actually care about her mortals.
Chalchihuitlicue is also the second wife of the god Tlaloc who was also once the Sun god of the 3rd incarnation of the earth, which he destroyed after Tezcatlipoca stole his first wife Xochiquetzal prompting him to set the world on fire, and mother of the moon god Tecciztecatl who competed with Tonatiuh for the position of God of the 5th sun, and instead got the consolation prize of being God of the moon, which on one hand turned out better for Tecciztecatl in the long run...but also he lives on an angry severed head of a Goddess who is still furiously trying to eat the Sun, and his only other company is an immortal rabbit.
Chalchihuitlicue and Tlaloc rule together in the eternal springtime paradise realm of Tlalocan, providing rain to to the earth bringing fertile waters to crops on earth. She specifically is he protector of Women and Children, and people who died in ways related to water, like being drowned are welcomed into their paradise realm in their afterlife.
I imagine Jade dragons not only need to have been a human who exemplified qualities which the Chalchihuitlicue stand-in of this setting admires, but also they have to die by water, so sometimes the process of creating a Jade Dragon is a willful sacrafice where a person is called on to become the Jade Dragon giving up their human life to be reborn as a dragon and help protect people.
The Jade Dragon is able to control water, and breaths a piercing jet of water at its enemies.
