I had to get this ych from
pumpkin_hyena because of my recent play-through of Pokémon Fire Red, rping as Galia!
So here's the story...
I was originally thinking of a fighting-type Pokémon for Galia if she were a trainer in the Pokémon world, and I even went back to Pokémon Fire Red for the GameBoy Advance to role-play as her in that play-through. Everything was going well, the team was at or above level for the Cerulean City gym, and Galia was on her way to Vermilion City to join the party being held on the S.S. Anne. Training her team a bit more in the grassy areas near the Pokémon Daycare, she encounters a shiny Pidgey! For any trainer who doesn't care about shinies from trades, guaranteed shinies, or event Pokémon, hatching one from an egg or encountering one in the wild is a huge deal! Unfortunately, dread set in when looking into her inventory to see how many Pokéballs she has, there is only a single Pokéball; she has only one shot at catching this rare Pokémon, as the odds of encountering a shiny in this generation is 1 in 8192; a situation like this is a true test for any trainer.
Fortunately for Galia, she had previously caught two Pokémon that might be vital in catching this shiny Pidgey before she went to Pewter City: the Fighting-type Pokémon Mankey and the Electric-type Pokémon Pikachu. Because she was training a Spearow back when she had caught Mankey, she knows that Flying-type moves are super effective against Fighting-types, so using Mankey against this Pidgey would help raise the odds of getting it into the red without knocking it out. However, before she does that, she sends out Pikachu because this electric mouse knows a move that can paralyze the shiny. Pikachu uses Thunder Shock, Pidgey becomes paralyzed. With step one complete, Galia switches out Pikachu for Mankey, and now it is on to the part most nerve-racking. First hit, still in the green; second hit, just made it to the yellow by a pixel; the third hit, Pidgey's health is now in the middle of the red.
Now is the moment of truth; Glia knows from a trainer school that it is easier to catch a Pokemon if its health is low and easier still if it is either paralyzed or asleep, but even then there is a chance of this Pidgey escaping the Pokéball, so she is not out of the woods yet. She throws the Pokéball at the shiny bird, and it goes in: first shake, it's still in; second shake, the bird hasn't broken out yet; the third shake... at that moment, it seems like an eternity goes by. Galia knows that even after the third shake, a Pokémon can break out; that kind of scenario is like thinking you are about to win a race, but another runner comes out of nowhere and pulls ahead of you one foot before you cross the finish line. ...
Click! "Gotchya! Pidgey was caught!" Galia had not given nicknames to any of her Pokémon, but she was so ecstatic that she gave Pidgey the nickname "Goldwing" because the yellow color of his feathers reminded her of gold. Since then, Goldwing has evolved into a Pidgeot, and he is a permanent member of her team as she continues her adventures in the world of Pokémon.
