Here is a marking gauge I made to scratch lines of pieces of metal by following the straight edge they have.
The beam of this tool was made from a piece of sheet metal that I had curled into a tube. I could have just made it from a regular piece of rodstock and drilled the hole to accept the screw that tightens the scribe, but I really don't have the stuff to drill straight holes through round stock like that
The scribe on it is just a piece of 1/8th spring that I cut off from a larger piece.
It works really well, but I will want to make a better one in the future that looks good and isn't as shoddily made.
the hole I drilled for the scribe to go through went at a weird angle, honestly nothing on this thing is precision made, but it works.
