Heh, I had a bit of time on my hands and I had been wanting to make this for a while. Unfortunately though I only got about 5 hours of sleep because of this Worth itttt. xD
For those of you who don't know what Jellyhounds are, they are my original species that i've created. They are essentially super smart, swift, and agile dogs who can live in the ocean or on land, and are very dangerous to humans (It all revolves around their backstory). Mix a jellyfish, a dog/canid, and a sea anemone together, and you have jellyhound.
..I'm not the best at sculpture, but I do enjoy it as a hobby. This was hard to work with as I made a wire skeleton under the clay, and the more clay I placed the heavier it got and things began shifting around. Luckily I got it under control before baking.
If you like the sculpture or species, I ask that you comment. Not required, but I love hearing people's feedback. :) Thank you.
Jellyhound species belongs to me, as does this sculpture!
All comments, favs, and questions are appreciated.

You can cut the bulk on sculptures so they don't start to slump under their own weight by bulking out the armature before adding clay. I'm guessing you're using polymer clay here since you're baking? create the bulk of the body with foil and then use the polymer clay to create the top skin layer. You can see an example of what I mean in my scraps here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3416867/ (if you're using polymer clay, don't use tape. I use a different substance, thus the tape over parts of foil)
as for species design, for an aquatic species it seems to have very long legs and small paws, which wouldn't work well for swimming. If they're mammals, such a slight build would leave them losing a lot of heat to the water because of the huge surface area. (same with those ears) If they are cold blooded, that's not an issue, but hot blooded, they'd either have to eat huge amounts to maintain temperature, or have a much squatter body. even semi-aquatic mammals tend to be squatter than pure land animals because of the heat loss issue.

Oh wow, thank you for all the feedback and advice! What a thoughtful comment. :) I will use your advice the next time I try to sculpt.
As for the actual species, it is a bit of a frankenstein animal, in regards to it's structural design. It doesn't often swim unless it's on the surface of the water, because of it's lengthy body. It would require too much energy spent on trying to get around if it swam everywhere underwater. The paws are webbed however, and if not riding ocean currents it is able to submerge under the tides and slowly glide or "paddle" through the water. They do however seek out warmer water, and seem to be charged by the heat of the sun, much like cold blooded animals. In terms of travel, it floats around using a buoyant layer of "skin" on it's back, masquerading as a dead animal floating on the surface of the water(Which is also it's tactic for hunting aquatic prey). The ears as well as the limbs are there simply because it began as a a dog and still is mainly just a dog, and the species as a whole hasn't been subjected to extreme evolutionary time and change, as they are a new sort of species that has just been "discovered". In time if they always stayed in the water, the body may become more streamlined and the ears may shrink, but it is simply too soon for any drastic changes to occour. It's large ears and lengthy body also help it on land, where it also is able to hunt and thrive.. It isn't strictly a water dweller. :)

Thank you so much. :)
There are a lot of little creases and dents in the overall sculpt, but I wasn't really making a fancy piece or to impress. With personal sculpts for myself, I normally either don't finish (I actually have an unfinished IK sculpt too! Her tail is just a wire and its been that way for years. xD) or it is imperfect and has a few dings. I think this is because I want to keep it fun.. Nothing is perfect, right? And difference adds charm. :P
Anyway, yeah, hopefully i'll get it painted soon. I actually have a cool plan for the eyes, if all goes well. they are just empty sockets and if I play my cards right, they will become follow me eyes. :D

Haha unfinished projects. :)
I'm guilty of that too. I just get so excited about the next idea I have that I forget how excited I was about the one before it.
But it's good to do something for you and then decide to share it. Just because you are making art doesn't mean it has to be for someone else. I tell that to myself too. It takes the edge off, but then I produce a good picture that's private so I can't share anyway hahaha. :)
Oh I really like those eyes! Weird though but never fails to amaze me all the same!
