There was no grey tires here.
The original tires on the Brillant used to be white with a black line (tough it's barely grey now ) then we had white tires, red tires, then totally black tires; and later, white and black tires, that would become the classical (60's to 90's) brown and black tires.
Then, I can't tell who where the first. Black tires and white tires seems to be used mostly before WWII, with red tires appearing in the late 30's and surviving to the late 50's.

Hmm... Perhaps you should buy the cream colour, then! It looks very good on the Pashley Guv'nor, and can be seen as a somewhat aged white tyre.
