After being discarded by Toy Maker David initially saw no point in living as he had been stripped of his precious collection and refused to be rescued from the place he was throw into the snow outside of Toy Maker's house. However while he laid there he witnessed Toy Maker drop the head of the hippo Clair from his pocket and after Toy Maker left he retrieved her and brought her back to the main toy folk town where he was thanked for his services. David enjoyed the praise he received from helping his fellow toy folk and so he began to go out to search for lost toy folk in order to rescue them and return them back to their towns to be helped and healed.
