Scanned from inside the first cover of the first Xanadu comic and shared here, mostly to show everyone how well Vicky could draw kids. Many artists inside and outside of furry fandom have told me that it's very hard to do them properly in art. They're not just small adults, their proportions are all different. As seen here, Vicky knew what she was doing as an artist. Fatima and Alicia both look like children, probably about 12 years old.
This was also probably one of the few times Alicia was ever able to be with her father Allynrud if we go by Vicky's account. Allynrud spent most of his time making sure his newly-founded empire didn't come apart and didn't have the time for his daughter that he wanted, or so Vicky told me. Alicia pretty much had her own way as a filly and was referred to as 'the royal brat' out of earshot. Which was one of the reasons why Allynrud had Fatima brought to the imperial palace as company for her, to try and settle his daughter down. It seems to have worked. A little. Certainly Alicia cared deeply for Fatima and vice-versa, the two seeing each other as sisters. Part of me wonders if that was some of the reason why Alicia wanted to change the Xanadan social system as much as she did.
Vicky also told me that when Fatima dies of old age, which will happen long before Alicia does, what with unicorns being near-immortal with 1000 year lifespans, that Alicia is going to be devastated for a long time.
There were so many stories that could have been told with these two, both them as children and them later in life, that we'll never see. Thanks for what you did give us, Vicky.

I'd say that Alicia was still a bit of a brat when we saw her as an Empress. Using the Unicorn Pool as her bath tub, receiving guests there while bathing and having dalliances there? Even trying to 'entertain' a domestique there?
She did mature a bit during the adventures we saw.
But yes, so many stories we will never see. *sigh*
I'd love for any kind of reprint, even digital, so the younger people can experience this world and the adventures.

Vicky herself said a couple of times that Alicia did need to grow up a little. And as you pointed out, we saw some of that during the stories. Especially in the second series, 'Across Diamond Seas', where Alicia and Kinomon showed several times how resourceful and determined they could be when they were facing more powerful opponents like Tzu Kai and Tzu Li.
Puberty was very good to both Alicia and Fatima. Though they were both cute as a filly and kit, too.
I once had this idea for a two-panel comic where one panel is Alicia and Fatima at the age shown above, sniffing at some passing young males their age with an, "Oh, boys" in tones of disgust. Then the next one is them a few years later after they -- blossomed, with Alicia posing and smiling and calling after the young men, "Oh, boyyyys..."
That goofy idea for Alicia and Fatima's changing attitude as they grow up was inspired by a cartoon of some sort I saw years ago, but I forget which one. It's one of those 'I know I saw it, but for the life of me I can't remember where' deals.
