Gaile is a very interesting character indeed, largely because of her extensive history in both the Human and Pokémon worlds. Originally she was just the humble partner of one Ephiel Tomenti, but was cursed by a Ninetales to become a sort of semi-living ghost. After Ephiel was dragged kicking and screaming into the Pokémon World in the form of a Gengar, Gaile was indoctrinated into the Daughters Of Arceus as a founding member, becoming their sort of spectral herald.

That being said, Gaile was eventually brought into assist a team from the Air Continent in saving the world and eventually rebelled from the DOA, seeing to it that the team - Team Cinder - brought her back from her spectral form. Unfortunately, this was at the cost of her memory, so when she came back she recalled nothing. Despite this, she chose to join Team Cinder as thanks and became a well-known rescue-operator.

Eventually, after over a decade of playing ball with Team Cinder, both her and fellow member Absol The Wanderer decided to take their leave, though eventually also went seperate ways. Despite this, she - like him - ended up in Iustitia eventually, and then managed to join Team Blazeblue. That brings us to today, where she acts as their third member and basically their red mage.

Oh, and her katana: The Rose Nasty is actually an artifact that she'd found on an exploration, said to be a relic from possibly hundreds of years ago. Nobody knew where it came from but Gaile had wielded it since not long after she left the Air Continent. It doesn't seem to be amazingly special... as far we know.
