Someguy Sketches 060 - Lex & Jamie's First Meeting [STORY]
Today, April 21, marks the anniversary of when Lex and Jamie first met. To celebrate, I've decided to tell you the story of how it all happened!
Back in 1995, Lex found himself in a loveless relationship with Jodi Freeman, which ended in him ghosting her. Realizing that he didn't like girls at all, Lex decided that, after getting his high school diploma, he'd go on a cross-country soul searching trip so he could figure himself out. For almost ten years, he traveled all across the country, living out of his van or crashing on couches, and never staying in one spot for too long.
Three years in, he started dating a man named Kyle Vernon, and they had an amazing year together. However, Lex's constantly-moving lifestyle proved too much, and they began to fight more and more often. In April of 2000, they reached their breaking point, having a very nasty fight that resulted in their break-up. Lex was left devastated, drifting aimlessly around Florida for weeks.
One day, he drifted into a local diner, catching the attention of a young Jamie Flintlock. They got to talking, eventually moving their discussion to a nearby park. Just talking to Jamie really helped Lex process everything, and while they kept in touch, Lex left Florida to continue his journey for another six years.
Lex dated another man — Paul Henderson — along the way, but eventually, he realized that he wanted to get his life together, so he moved to Santa Rosa in 2006 so he could finally attend college, earning an Associate's Degree in Culinary Arts.
Then, in 2010, Jamie came out to his parents as gay, and they completely disowned him. Returning the favor from so long ago, Lex allowed Jamie to move in with him while he processed. This turned into them unofficially dating, and eventually, in 2015, they made it official — and this time, Lex would make sure to take things slow.
I wasn't originally planning on doing this today, but I realized that today was the date I'd chosen for their first meeting (like I said, I'm making a timeline to keep track of everything), so I decided to draw this and share their story.

Actually, the original plan *WAS* to have Lex meet Vincent during his travels. But thanks to the timeline I'm making, I realized a big problem with that version of events:
Because I made it so that Vincent was born in 1984 (as another reference to your username), there's a 7-year age gap between Vincent and Lex (born in 1977, and Lex's birthday is earlier in the year than Vincent's). This means that Vincent was only 11 years old when Lex started his journey in 1996, and was a month away from turning 20 when Lex started dating Paul in 2004 (this kept Lex in the US until he ended his journey in 2006, meaning that any international travel during his soul-searching would have to be before 2004).
And since it felt weird to have a mid-twenties man meet & befriend a teenager, I made it so that they met in 2019 instead — well after Vincent became an adult.
So yeah, just a snowballing pile of details that cumulated in the idea getting scrapped. Hope you understand!
