News broke this morning that Pope Francis passed away after a lengthy illness, mainly double lung pneumonia.

Pope Francis was elected in following the resignation of Pope Benedict XVI in February 2013. Plus is the first Pope from South America (Argentina) and chose his name after Saint Francis of Assisi. And he firmly believed in helping the poorest of the poor and lead his papacy , noted for his humility and emphasis on God's Mercy for the poor. Enough to chose to live at the Domus Sanctae Marthae guest house (House of Saint Martha) instead of the Papal apartments in the Apostolic Palace.

And Francis was a critic of unbridled consumerism, overdevelopment and for action for climate change.

Pope Francis in his last weeks was making fewer public appearances due to his declining health, but made his last public appearance on Easter Sunday , even riding in the Popemobile around the Vatican. Passing away in the early morning hours of Easter Monday.
