Your mom is right, you should always sew at least 2-3cms inside which is why I say make sure to cut a little extra because when you do sew a little further in it takes away that little extra you did cut out so it leaves the original size of the pattern. But yes, we all learn from our mistakes and its good to try and modify your patterns with each and every new plush to make those corrections.
i already do that XD um i dont know if id ever be comforatable with sowing more "inward" because thats not how i larend to sow and it doesnt really affect my pattern, the only thing i did wrong was misjudge the amount of fabric i used on the neck and underside was all,simple mistake, easy fix :3 <3
