Ooh, good question! I don’t think there’s a 100% confirmed canon explanation, but the general fan consensus seems to be that the straps are used to keep the mutants’ lips out of the way so they don’t have trouble speaking and eating… I guess the FEV must really plump up your lips for some reason?
