Finding what answers we needed from the Ancient Archive wasn't easy! We turned to the Archivist for help, but upon seeing them, we started to have second thoughts! Luckily the leader of Team Danger has just enough courage to approach them... we're right behind you, Zenith!
Hi everyone! ^vv^/
Like I said last week, I've been hard at work at the recruiting mechanics in Monster Mystery! I've made a lot of progress this week too! You can now defeat certain monsters to recruit them, and recruiting them adds them to your team! If there's an empty slot in your current expedition, they'll also join in immediately ^vv^
Recruiting works a little differently in Monster Mystery than you you might be used to if you've played the early PMD games. Not all monsters that spawn in a locale have the chance to be recruited after all; only rarely do monsters spawn afflicted by a peculiar ailment. When a monster with this ailment is defeated, then they can be recruited..!
It might sound a little complicated right now, the video I'll make soon will make it much easier to understand >vv< but essentially, instead of having monsters randomly trip you up and ask if they can join, rarely a monster like any other will appear but have boosted stats and be pulsing a dark color. These afflicted monsters take very little damage from your teammates but can still be defeated by them and be given status effects that your teammates give. Your own attacks are unaffected though, and if you defeat these afflicted monsters with standard attacks, they will just leave like any other monster. That all said, if you use a skill on them, their dark aura will break apart, nullifying their defenses against your teammates, and allowing everyone to do lots of damage!
This 'broken apart' stage confirms the recruitment process, guaranteeing that you can recruit that monster, even if you then defeat them with standard attacks or a teammate defeats them. This means if you have no interest in recruiting them, you can just defeat them with standard attacks from the start, or defeat them with skills and select 'no' to the recruitment message.
There are some other surprises with the mechanic I can't wait to go over soon >vv<; but that's the basics! When I show off the idea in a video, I'd love to hear if you think I've made it simple to understand, overcomplicated, or any other thoughts ^vv^ I thought it would be nice to make recruitment a little less spontaneous and more of a rare interesting thing to hunt down and come across..!
So until then, please have a great weekend! ^vv^/
