Last month I read a Moby Dick comic adaptation by Christophe Chabouté and felt inspired to take on the whale myself, in the only familiar way I can. It's a beautifully illustrated book, I couldn't recommend it enough for the drawings alone, I'm a sucker for big blacked in areas.
I did a few study sketches of sperm whales to familiarize myself with the anatomy and went straight to the canvas. I did it in one sitting in a few hours - not 1:1 with my vision I had in mind but I'm pretty happy with how it came out, being pretty new to painting with markers this way and all.
Acryllic markers, brush pen, gel pen and alcohol markers on medium grain canvas panel, 18x12cm, March 2025.
