“When your scales get dry, especially during shedding season, one of the most important things is to stay hydrated. Bring water with you whenever you go outside, and wear comfortable clothing when you can to avoid feeling itchy. Try not to pick at your scales, as you could end up damaging them or getting things stuck underneath them. Scale lotion can be helpful, if you have any on hand, but remember not to overdo it. A single layer, when rubbed in completely, is enough for most reptiles. Extra dry spots may require an additional layer to set in. Remember to fully remove all shed from your body before applying scale lotion.
In cases of scale rot, contact your doctor, then soak and disinfect the area immediately. Apply a layer of antibiotics afterwards, and be careful not to scratch. Always keep an eye out for discolored, cracked, or raised scales, especially after shedding, as these may be signs of an infection. Maintaining a clean and humid living environment is key to helping your scales flourish!”
