Some ppl are just so stuck in their ways, or so brainwashed, they just refuse to see the light. Regardless of how much info you dump onto them.

Just choose ignore Reality is smashing "Fantasy Land" to bits. They'd rather sit in that pile rubble with their eyes closed.

Might someone block you in this way, for exactly this reason? Sure.

But just because someone blocks you during an argument, that fact cannot be used to infer the correctness of your position. There's no causal relationship, and there are plenty of other reasons you might have been blocked.

Either of you could still be right, wrong, or some mixture of both. You just can't tell which just from a block

If I am wrong, you should have no problem having that discussion to prove me wrong. When you block someone, you metaphorically cut out their tongue so that they cannot speak to you, and as the saying goes "When you tear out a man's tongue, you are not proving him a liar, you are only telling the world that you fear what he might say."

Someone blocking me so that I can't dispute their argument may not necessarily prove me right, but it certainly makes it look like they are very afraid of being proven wrong. That is the point that I am trying to make.

Then change the wording on your sign. You state your case as an absolute "if-then" argument. "If you block me, then it is because you can't defend your case". You're attempting to motte-and-bailey your position in your rebuttal above.

There are plenty of other reasons someone might want to block you. Maybe they can defend their position, they just don't care to defend it to you. Maybe they want to say their piece to ensure your position doesn't go unchallenged, but not waste any further time on you. People do not owe you their time.

And your "tongue tearing" analogy goes too far. You are not being silenced by an individual blocking you. You still have plenty of platforms on which to speak. It's not a ban. Someone blocking you is not a gag in your mouth, it's just them choosing to not listen.

Credit where credit is due, the argument that "If you block me during an argument then you must not be able to defend your argument." is indeed a false generalization, and I should have acknowledged that right from the get-go.

But, you are now moving the goal post. Your initial argument was "Just because someone blocks you during an argument, that fact cannot be used to infer the correctness of your position. I disputed the first part of your argument by saying that I never claimed that someone blocking me during an argument meant that I must be right, but you completely dismissed it.

Second, when you make an argument against a claim that I make, you take away some of my time because I have to look at your counter argument and form a defense, and don't even think about making this "You don't have to look at their counter argument" rebuttal, because it would demonstrate that I cannot defend my argument, which of course would weaken it. If I would not or could not defend my argument, I shouldn't make it in the first place. So, no, I believe that if you have taken some of my time to dispute my argument, you owe me some of your time. Either prove me wrong or admit that you are wrong.

Third, does the tongue tearing analogy go to far? Kind of, so I'll give you half a point there. It was the closest thing that I could think of. When someone blocks you, you cannot respond directly to their argument or dispute their argument on a post that they make, so if you are in their territory, you effectively have a gag in your mouth, so it's more than just "them choosing not to listen". However, if they make the argument on a post that you or someone else who hasn't blocked you has made, then you can indirectly counter their argument by making a reply on the post itself, acknowledging the person you are disputing and make the counter argument. In my opinion, this would be a really bad, if not, the worst position to be in, because they would have no way of knowing if or when you have made your counter argument, and assuming that the counter argument makes sense, they likely aren't going to change anyone's minds. Which begs the question of why would anybody put themselves in such a bad position.

At the end of the day, you did change my mind because the argument is a false generalization. I will make a post when I can, stating that I changed my mind and I will also give you a shout out.
