ah i'm glad it comes off that way! it was the intention. well Cecil is from Invincible. Gem is an oc i've had for years. her job is to go to various dimensions and make sure their timelines stay stable. all the people stuck with her job are immortal and have various abilities, but cannot force change within a timeline.
but in short she also can't help herself with trying to subtly help or protect certain people she grows attached to. even though she's very restricted on just what she can do. an example being a thing that we see in cecil's past in the show is that he's in prison for three years when he's younger. Gem for this little fun idea gets herself incarcerated and forces them to put her in the same prison as him, just so she can keep an eye on Cecil to make sure he doesn't get beat up more than he should. She doesn't have to take such a hands on approach, but she's the type of person that doesn't mind the idea of three years in prison to make sure someone else stays safe.
