In the army, during basic training we drank at least 8l of water a day! (10 - 14 canteens) It was summer, and you lost a lot of water doing all your physical stuff! =^^=
Even today, to stave off the gout, I try to drink at least 3-4l / day!
(I'd give the clues for how one can tell if one's body has enough water in it, but it is not polite conversation! =^^; )
