Ren Sings Tavistock Street / Young Ramble-Away (A Folk Song)
An English folk song, I only have one verse. The tune is so good I felt like singing it. 🦊🎵
Now as I was a-walking down Tavistock Street,
With my gay scarlet cloak and my buckles complete,
I was one to entice all the maidens that day,
They would not but look at Young Ramble-Away.
It was collected by Reverend Sabine Baring-Gould from Mr James Parsons in Lewdown, Devon, England on May 25, 1891.
To be honest, when I learned it I wasn't aware there were more verses. I later found them in a manuscript that is available digitally, in Baring-Gould's handwriting. It's a bit hard to read for me. At some point I should sit down and try to transcribe all of it, it'd be a fun song to learn and sing!
