So, I continue to delve into the lore of my character Richie
The relationship between Richie and Alan is complex and far from ideal. Alan always wanted to raise a "real man" and treated his son more strictly than he did Rudy(Richie's sister). He wasn't an abusive father, but his parenting methods often left Richie with the feeling that he wasn't good enough. Unlike Haruka(Ritchie's mum) who tried to give her son love and support, Alan rarely showed tenderness, considering it "unnecessary" for the boy.
Richie, for his part, always felt a distance between himself and his father. He tried to earn his respect, but the older he got, the more he realised that Alan just didn't know how to show his love otherwise. Because of this, Richie has formed a belief that he must cope with all problems on his own, not to complain and not to show weakness - that's how his father taught him. Although Alan really loves Richie, he doesn't realise how much his parenting methods have affected Richie. He may even be proud that his son has grown up to be "resilient," not noticing that behind it is a broken man who doesn't know how to open up to even those closest to him.
