Great gnocchi in a beef soup set to warm and comfort the body from the kitchens of
maelinpanda
This one's really easy to make and tasty.
Ingredients:
1tbsp margarine/butter
chopped onion (about 1/4 to 1/2 cup)
1 package Gnocchi
Small amount of beef, cut into squares about 1cm
worchestershire sauce (which I probably spelled wrong)
salt (just a little)
beef broth (carton)
2 tbsp white flour
Start with cutting up the onion and cook in the margarine/butter until soft. The beef can be any type, I happend to get a medium-sized steak and cut it up this time, but it was a little under 3/4 of a pound. (I also cut off the fat from the steak) Cut the beef and add to the onions & butter. Sprinke on a little salt and stir frequently until the beef browns completely. Add a few dashes of the worchestershire sauce and stur some more. Slowly add the beef broth, reserving about 3/4 cup. Heat until almost boiling. While that heats, pour the reserved broth into a bowl or cup, mix in the flour and blend until smooth and opaque. When the broth is hot, add the flour-broth mix slowly (this will thicken the soup some) and stirring constantly while adding. Add the gnocchi and cook for a few minutes (if using frozen gnocchi, make sure you bring up the heat in the broth enough to defrost & cook it. I usually get the sealed pack of gnocchi from the pasta isle so it's not frozen. generally, gnocchi starts to float to the surface when fully cooked. Finally, before serving, taste the broth and add more salt or worchestershire as needed.
The first time I made this, I used gnocchi that was made with sweet potatoes which seems to go REALLY well with this recipe. But, I can't find them in the store here anymore so the ones from today are regular potao gnocchi.
I may have some spelling errors, I am tired. Let me know if you see anything I missed and I will revise.
