Those of you who've been watching me for a while may recognize the tune and the title; an earlier version is in my scraps. But this is the beginning of the reinvention, and I really think this entire project will be better than my initial idea. Not a sour grape to be found...
At last, here's my first rough demo from the upcoming Fosgate: Ferret Loan Officer. Fosgate himself will be singing this, while he instructs Henry the horse on the finer points of finance.
Since it's just a rough, the accents have moments of, well, my glaring non-Britishness. I'm sure sliceofdog will weigh in, not only on my pronunciation but also whether I've accurately portrayed the geographic area and the differing socio-economic levels of my two characters. These things will always need tweaks.
Still, I'm elated to have gotten something written and demoed at last. I've enjoyed the extra time I've devoted to the bunny over the past few months, but now I'm eager to whet my chops on an ancient classic story and a character people will love to hate. Funny how the afterthought of the old project has become the focus of the new one.

Fantastic. ^__^
Have you aver considered using walk about puppets for a stage play? ("Avenue Q" style?)
My mind immediately sprang to Nelson singing "Middle Class is Magical" http://youtu.be/PFZ4c7Kf590
If you haven't seen this show before, start with episode 4 (one of the funniest). Also, it's adult humor, not suitable for the kiddies http://youtu.be/k59DyuP-ZcM

OH gosh. I'm vaguely aware that this show exists, but I really want to get it all on disc and make an afternoon out of it!! Looks hilarious.
As far as the walkaround puppets, I wouldn't be adverse to the idea except for the fact that I wouldn't want unfavorable comparisons to Avenue Q. That, and it's bound to be somewhat pricey. This show will, at least in its beginning stages, go with absolutely minimal costuming simply because I blew all my money on the LaserWolf suit!

I don't think most of the characters (besides our female human barrister, still need to find her name) are originally from Blackpool. They all ended up there on the notion that it would be a land of opportunity - and as modern Brit audiences would know, they're a few decades too late. Fosgate's really the only critter that's doing well for himself. As for Henry, he's the most countrified character, but for his accent I can't yet delineate "English countryside" from "pirate". And I'll eventually need to turn it over to an actual human actor anyway, so it will be that person's issue. As long as he comes off as the most socio-economically challenged character, I think it will work.
The exact melody? I can't type out the sheet music here in the comments, but the melody for the first line of the verses is "A G# A B A G# A c B c d eb". And a few lines are really meant to be spoken, not sung, and will be indicated by x noteheads in the score.
The plot's an old one, one which is hard to do these days without inviting criticisms of racism. By anthropomorphizing most of the cast, I hope to get around that particular issue, since everyone is free to hate rodents. The most famous version of the story was written between 1564 and 1616, so there's your clue.

Ding ding ding! And in my version, it won't end with anyone having to convert to a different religion, or species, or anything. I will say that Fosgate will have to deal with worse, and even more inaccurate, epithets than "rodent", but to his credit he always takes the high road.
You win the contest for "most informed response to the song". One of the reasons I wanted to revisit this particular story is its timelessness. People are rarely evil; institutions are rarely evil. Yet, somehow, when certain people become involved in certain institutions, it causes suffering just as real and devastating as any intentionally evil act. Fosgate is not, and should not be construed as, evil; he's merely following the code of his profession. The problem is that the profession itself depends upon failures to propagate it, so he has little incentive to help Henry truly succeed.
You are right to be worried about the outcome of this transaction; however, I try to do good by all the characters at the end of the story.
