Near meets Near - (2025)
Maelstrom Saga Near comes across her counterpart from Twin Dragons! I wanted to do this drawing for fun. It's a lot of fun comparing the two, especially since Maelstrom Near lives in a more fantasy/scifi esque setting and TD Near is a bit more grounded in real life. :3

I found it interesting, and when THE DRESS turned up it seemed like the older drawings of Near done five years ago was somewhat prophetic. That said, I do ship them as a couple, I think Kai could use a little Maelstrom in his life and Near could use a little grounding from a sweet, somewhat mature boyfriend.
Just out of curiosity, where do "Velscave" and "Csarcarim" come from? I did. some strenuous googling but I came up with nothing.

Haha It's fun when opposites come together ya know? Without any spoilers, Near in Maelstrom is -very- adventurous. Lol One of her favorite pastimes is parkour and once her electricity powers start kicking in... things get very interesting from there. Hence the scars and the bandaid on her Maelstrom design. ^^
Well, long story short, those were names created by
. The Maelstrom Saga is essentially a massive undertaking between myself and my partner. We both worked on developing this series for over a decade now. She can explain her naming process better than I can, but I can attest that the two of us come up with imaginary names almost naturally (on the spot even). Combining words, finding syllables that sound good/roll off the tongue well, and also (especially for me), coming up with names that fit the confines of the languages we've developed.
Also to reference a comment I read (and I know you didn't post this, but it's fun to bring it up anyway), Near's middle name is not Agnes. Lol

Will answer the questions my other half couldn't answer :D
Basically Velscave was a play on words. When coming up for it for Near n Csarcarim's Mother, Anjak, I wanted to give her a last name that didn't sound generic, that could seperate her from another storyline/ collection of characters that overtime began to all exist in the same universe as what Caznir and I were working on
For Csarcarim's name, I always love coming up with names by playing around with words or giving them easter egg meanings. His name is derived from a play on ' Sarcasm' and ' Charismatic' since when creating him those were two big aspects in his original conceptualization.
And as for a face to his name, this is an old ref sheet I made for him a few years back c:

Pleasure to meet you both. Zepher, I love your artwork.
Caznir, you talk about Near being adventurous, looks like that aspect is coming out in Twin Dragons, with her father's obsession with safety (that's gotta come from *somewhere*) and her willingness to climb the tree before she realized it would cause a wardrobe malfunction.
Good stuff!

xD Let's just say Near gets into... -a lot- of crazy things... More on that as I draw more Near and Csarcarim (and release a comic TBD).
In Maelstrom Canon, her mother and father have a lot to handle. Especially since Near and Csarcarim both get into antics that can really push their patience. Lol Parkour being one of those things. Although canonically, Vincent isn't as much of a worrier in contrast to his TD counterpart. He loves surfing and is kind of a daredevil (to a lesser extent lol) himself.
