As a brain exercise, I sometimes self-insert my wolf, silly and affectionately wholesome as he is, into settings presented by others. An ancient guardian power presiding over an ancient temple could be able to peer in the deepest, darkest depths of his soul, and find out that he's just the goodest boy. No interest in taking any treasure. No interest in revealing anything about the location to anyone else. He's simply exploring and having a good time.
Thus my brain is convinced there is a non-zero chance that he'd allowed to be there. These treasure hunters getting what's coming to them and Dicey's just trotting around in the background, being a wolf, rubbing his shoulder against a wall here, nosing closely at this spot here. Just the goodest boy.
He would make for a terrible guard wolf, if a treasure hunter brought a treat or a ball, and also just in general. But he could be a good distraction, and a provider of a false sense of security when he doesn't trigger traps. There's obviously no traps there. The 4' tall, 220+ pound monster of an arctic quadruped wolf just walked there. It's clearly safe. Go on. You know you want to pet the wolf anyway. :)
