So a few days back when I was getting back into Blender, I tried following along with the teachings of 3DGreenhorn, and I've completed about 85% of it to the letter and I'm very pleased with my results... except...
There were some obvious oversights on 3DG's part that made following the tutorial a bit hit and miss... For one, the segment of the vid still up on youtube, about duplicating the freshly made bed mattress and turning it into both the header and footboard of the bed was HECCIN confusing because either his key mapper couldn't keep up, or youtubes auto-captions couldn't and after pressing O to activate the proportional editing function, what was NOT shown was pressing G to get the Grab/move function, so rolling the scroll wheel zoomed my view in and out instead of increasing or decreasing the zone of influence of the proportional editor...
Another accidental omission from otherwise a wonderful tut, was the lack of explanation regarding the edge-loop selection of the cactus to put on the wall shelf which I never completed until recently. It's not until my own experimenting with Blender that I learned about using the Alt key while LMB clicking edges to select the whole edge loop and not just what's under the cursor.
Overall this was a rousing success and taught me a faster way to make walls and things by using cubes, deleting the front most facing faces, and then giving what's left of the object some thickness with the solidifier modifier.
Thanks CG!
