That's right. I got to meet THE animation legend himself DON BLUTH at Planet Comicon in Kansas City. Got a photo taken with him, and an autograph. It was an experience unlike any other. This man was responsible for creating some of the most beautifully animated films of all time, like "The Secret of NIMH", "An American Tail", "The Land Before Time", "All Dogs Go To Heaven", and much more. And his art style is the inspiration for my likeness/sona.
When I approached the table, I met his assistant Lavelle Lee (who recognized my shirt as being Kosperry's work, and thought that was cool). Then I got to meet Don Bluth himslef, who is very kind and grandfatherly in all the best ways. He also has quite the sense of humor — I told him he is one of the architects of my chilhood, and he jokingly responded with "Oh no! Well, you look like you turned out alright." He autographed the picture I selected (with his many characters), and we took a photo with the Matt Gaufur plushie. He was very impressed.
I shook his hand and told him what a profound legend he is in the world of animation. And indeed he is. He gave a motherly mouse the strength to save her home, a young mouse the will to find his lost family, a young dinosaur the determination to find a greater valley, a sly dog another chance of a fulfilling life, and of course, a girl of Russian royalty the true love she could never forget.
Thank you, Mr. Bluth for everything!
