I'm excited because an LP of Irish folk songs from the Ulster region arrived. I bought a Dutch library copy that they were selling off, it has a song on it that I always wanted to hear. About a wedding of a frog and a mouse. ^-^
The LP is unplayed so I should be able to make a nice clean recording of it to preserve online.
I like folk songs. It's another little nerd hobby for me. :3
I'll digitise the vinyl album with my Zoom H2n portable recorder. Small fox project for today. 🐾
The Frog's Wedding song begins like this:
A frog set out to woo a mouse,
Follow ta right ta leree-o
A frog set out to woo a mouse
And so he went to the mouse’s house.
Follow ta right ta leree-o,
Tanttinnaree a tirrand-e.
Saying, "Young Miss Mouse will you marry me?"
"I will if my Uncle Rat agrees."
It was sung by Packie Byrne of Donegal. It's an old song, with the earliest mention of it as far back as 1549 in Scotland and one of the earliest I can think of that features anthropomorphic animals.
